What ACK/NAK keeps, and what it doesn’t.
Effective 11 October 2026 · GoPlaces Consulting LLC
This policy covers the ACK/NAK apps for Windows, macOS and Android, the ACK/NAK Relay service, and goplacesllc.com. GoPlaces Consulting LLC (“GoPlaces”, “we”) publishes them. WestLat Design distributes ACK/NAK and may handle your purchase and first-line support; this policy covers what reaches GoPlaces.
The short version
- ACK/NAK configures your GNSS receiver. The settings you enter go to the receiver, not to us.
- We receive a small amount of data when you activate the app, when you use a job code, and when the app reports an error. All of it is listed below.
- We do not sell data, run advertising, or use analytics trackers in the app or on this site.
What the app handles on your device
To do its job the app reads and writes receiver settings, which can include NTRIP or FTP logins, the receiver’s admin password, radio frequencies and base station coordinates. These stay on the receiver and on your device. The app keeps a diagnostic log on the device; credentials, full serial numbers and Bluetooth addresses are redacted from it before it is written. The log can include the receiver’s position.
On Android the app asks for Bluetooth and location permissions. Android requires location permission to scan for Wi‑Fi networks and Bluetooth devices; the app uses it only to find your receiver. The app does not record your phone’s or tablet’s location or send it to us. The receiver’s position can be part of an error report, as described below.
What reaches GoPlaces
Activation
When you enter an activation code, the app sends the code and the connected receiver’s serial number to our licence server, which returns a licence token stored on your device. We keep the code, the serial number and the activation time so the licence can be checked and restored.
Job codes (ACK/NAK Relay)
When you use a job code, the app sends the code, the receiver’s role (base or rover) and the receiver’s serial number to the relay, which replies with the connection details for that job. The relay keeps a record of which receiver claimed which job and when, and the usual connection logs (network address, time, data volume) needed to run the service and investigate problems. Correction data passing through the relay is forwarded, not stored.
Crash and error reports
If the app hits an error, it sends a report to our error-reporting provider. The report includes:
- the app version, device model and operating system version;
- the receiver’s model, firmware and radio module, and whether it was connected over Wi‑Fi or Bluetooth;
- the last 4 digits of the receiver’s serial number;
- the receiver’s position;
- the app’s logs and the steps that led to the error.
We use these reports only for support and to fix faults. Credentials, passwords, the full serial number, Bluetooth addresses and account names are removed on the device before the report is sent.
Logs you share
“Share logs” in the app hands the redacted diagnostic log to an app you choose, such as email. Nothing is sent unless you do this.
This website
goplacesllc.com is static and sets no cookies. Our web host keeps standard server logs, including IP address, for up to 30 days.
Where it goes and how long it stays
Our services and error reporting run on hosting providers in the United States. Activation and job records are kept while the licence or job is active and for up to two years after. Error reports are kept for 90 days. We share data with these providers only so they can run the service for us, and with no one else unless the law requires it.
Your choices
You can use the app without a job code; receiver settings then never leave your device, apart from what an error report carries. You can ask us to delete the activation and job records tied to a receiver serial number, and we will, unless an active licence depends on them. Write to support@goplacesllc.com.
Children
ACK/NAK is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new effective date. Substantive changes are also noted in the app’s release notes.
